Textiles Minister Highlights Vision for $350 Billion Market at Bharat Tex Roadshow in Kolkata

22nd November 2024, New Delhi/Kolkata: The Bharat Tex Roadshow held on 20th November 2024 at Hotel Westin, Kolkata, marked a key milestone in the lead-up to Bharat Tex 2025. Graced by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, the event attracted over 350 attendees, including prominent players from the textile industry.

Addressing the audience, Shri Giriraj Singh emphasized the government’s ambitious roadmap to double India’s textiles market size from $175 billion to $350 billion by 2030. “Kolkata, the cradle of India’s textile heritage, has seen its sheen fade, but we are committed to restoring its glory. Bharat Tex reflects our aspirations for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, showcasing India’s strength across the entire textile value chain,” he stated.

The Minister encouraged industry stakeholders to actively participate in Bharat Tex 2025 and urged key players, particularly in the innerwear segment, to expand their footprint in global markets. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to innovate sustainable solutions, including a blend of jute and recycled cotton, aimed at creating eco-friendly fabrics.

Shri Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, described Bharat Tex 2025 as a unified platform for the 5F focus—Farm, Fiber, Factory, Fashion, and Foreign—bringing together all segments of the textile value chain. “This event will showcase sustainability, foster innovation, and feature grand challenges for startups, product launches, and global dialogues,” he explained.

Strong Industry Support
Prominent dignitaries, including Shri Pabitra Margherita (Union Minister of State for Textiles), Shri Sudhir Sekhri (Chairman, AEPC), and Shri Anil Buchasia (Regional Sub-Committee Chairman, AEPC), were present at the event.

Shri Margherita praised Bengal’s rich textile heritage and encouraged smaller players to seize the opportunities offered by Bharat Tex 2025. Meanwhile, Shri Sekhri expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s proactive support, crediting their policies for the textile sector’s double-digit growth, including a 35% increase in October 2024 exports.
