British Heritage label ‘BURBERRY’ famous for their iconic trench coats founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856. Thomas Burberry was born in 1835 in Brockham Green, Surrey. He was trained to become a draper at local shop before, he started a small clothing line, specialize in outdoor clothing in 1857, when he was all 21. He invented a Gabardine breathable & waterproof Fabric in 1879, for his trenchcoats. Gabardine is breathable & waterproof fabric invented by Thomas, which became synonymous with Trenchcoats, suits, and jackets. He opened his first store on Haymarket Street, London in 1891.
In 2015 they acknowledged to become a brand generating revenue about 2.5 billion pounds. They are available in 50 countries with nearly 500 stores and expanded their horizons from traditional outdoor wear to clothing, accessories, perfumes and cosmetics.
Gabardine was radically transformed into rainwear and worn by British army during world war one, due to its durability and cloths made by them have been used for polar explorers, adventurers, soldiers and explorers.
Burberry has been worn by royals as Queen Elizabeth and other military officials were also fan of it. Their iconic trench coats were started available in two colors and it took more than 100 years to make it available in more colors. Before trench there was Tielocken, jacket designed for British soldiers it was double breasted with belt and no buttons. Their signature check pattern coats align at 45 degree angle and recognized as corporate target. Their Logo symbolizes Progress.
The iconic trench coats have become best sellers of 20th century, which was served by British army.
Fashion Powerhouse who is known to be pioneer for their trench coats, and have been ruling in since decades, celebrates their 160th Anniversary in 2016 with the release of short film on the life of Thomas Burberry. The film was directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia and written by Academy Award nominee Matt Charman.
